Top 10 Songs Of 2014

1. Taylor Swift-"Shake It Off"

This was a no brainier. Sure it isn't my favorite off of 1989 (That goes to "Blank Space"). But this song just totally set the tone for the new album and everyone and their Mom seemed to just fall in love with it, along with it's fun message. People danced and it was just the beginning of Slaylor Swift's world domination.  I loved it just because it was so fun and so catchy. There was NO escaping it.

2. Kacey Musgraves-"Follow Your Arrow"

Gasps! Progressive lyrics in a country music song? How dare they! She shook up the world with this song. It opened up dialogue, good and bad sadly. But yall know I am here for the GOOD! It spoke truths and was fun. She's won awards and put her stamp as a songwriter this year, finally just getting the attention she fully deserves.

3. Ed Sheeran-"Thinking Out Loud"

I couldn't have an end of year list without including this song. It's the first love song in ages that actually made me feel something!I have NOT had that feeling in such a long time, and I just welcomed it with open arms. His sweet lyrics and scruffy/sexy vocals are just the tip of the iceberg. Combine it with a visually stimulating music video that HE actually put all the effort into making it special. It just sent it over the top for me.

4. Becky G-"Shower"

I know, I hear you groaning now. Why such a sickly teen pop hit? Those reasons exactly! It was so damn catchy. You just could not get it out of your head and that beat? Come on now you KNOW you can't resisting attempting to dance.

5. Frozen-"Do You Want To Build A Snowman?"

While everyone else was stuck on the huge hit "Let It Go" this song was my favorite from the hit Disney animated movie. I LOVED all the cute vids that popped up because of it. It's super cute, catchy and will now and forever ask an age old question.

6. Meghan Trainor-"All About That Bass"

No one, no one could escape this song. It felt like it went viral overnight and soon everyone caught on. Sure it stirred up controversy on body image blah blah blah. I don't care if people like what  have to say or not, not every song is going to include every group of people. I'm not trying to "skinny shame", but hell for once I am proud to hear a positive message about loving my big ol butt. Fuck the haters Meghan, go on with your awesome self.

7. Nick Jonas-"Jealous"

A late one coming in this year but I just had to include it. If you would have told me 5 years ago I'd be loving and fallin' over Nick Jonas I would have cackled loudly and maybe punched you in the face. It's so smooth and swoon worthy. I. Regret. Nothing.

8. Fifth Harmony-"Bo$$"

Yet another pop song that may not seem like it's full of perfection, but damnit it is! Kudos for the wanting to empower all women! Plus points for being catchy and integrating  "Michelle Obama" and "Oprah" and a spelling lesson into one song. Alright you got me, not perfect. But I just can't help myself! I listened to this song more than any human should have this year.

9. Mary Lambert-"Secrets"

I swear this song was written about me. Like they took most of my life and put it into amazing lyrical form and threw a catchy piano riff behind it. It seriously was a good and fun look into the mirror and I think what others can learn from it is self acceptance in who they are.

10. Charlie XCX-"Boom Clap"

Or as all others think of it, the song from "The Fault In Our Stars". It was a surprising pop hit that had the right amount of edge and catchy. Sure the only thing you can clearly understand is the chorus but that doesn't matter, you know how to do that fake lip-synch well kid.

Steph

Some say he’s half man half fish, others say he’s more of a seventy/thirty split. Either way he’s a fishy bastard.
